Lineage Sire:
Echinidee’s sire is the prolific show jumping stallion Chin Chin. On September 12, 2007 the extraordinary Chin Chin passed away, he was 29 years old.
Chin Chin competed successfully for more than five years at international competitions including; 5 years at World Cup competitions, two Olympic Games both Seoul and Barcelona and two times at the World Equestrian Games.
Purchased by VDL Stud at the grand age of 24, Chin Chin was imported from Mexico to Holland where he stood at the prestigious VDL Stud until his death.
During his five years in Holland Chin Chin was very popular and had a long lasting influential impact on KWPN breeding. His sons: Zeolte VDL Zapatero and Arezzo Keur were approved by the KWPN studbook.
Every year at the mare shows his daughters have been very successful. In 2006, his daughter Welena VDL became Dutch Free Jumping Champion and Well Born Rilexy placed second in the same Championship. Daughter Zendence VDL became Champion of the 3-year old mares in hand and the full blood sibling to our mare Echinidee, Chinchidee [Chin Chin x Contender], was the 2007 Dutch Foal Champion and at the age of three Dutch National Champion Mare. In 2008, Annamieka VDL [Chin Chin x Emilion] was the Vice-Champion at the National Free Jumping Championships in Holland.
Chin Chin’s sire Constant jumped internationally with Dr. Ruping and was a son of the famous Cor de la Bryere and the well known dam Ella. Chin Chin’s grand-dam was also very active at the international level.
The full sister of Chin Chin produced two approved stallions: Libertino I and II. Other well known stallions from this breeding include: Cordobes, Lordano, and Centimor. Libertino I also jumped internationally.
Chin Chin had a very impressive jumping career. Together with his former owner and rider, Jaime Azcarraga from Mexico, this combination participated for more than five years at international level. In 1988, Jaime Azcarraga won five consecutive times in the North American League on the World Cup circuit and competed in Seoul at the Olympic Games where they placed sixth individually. Four years later, they competed again at the Olympics in Barcelona. In 1990, Chin Chin and Jaime Azcarraga started in the first edition of the World Equestrian Games in Stockholm. In 1989 and 1990, they were placed in the final of the World Cup in both Dortmund and Tampa. At the same time, they competed at international jumping competitions during which the scope, character and the suppleness of Chin Chin always aided his determined but amateur rider.
The offspring of Chin Chin really make the dream of their pedigree come true with top performances at horse shows and they sell for high prices in auctions around Europe. In 2004 and 2005, Chin Chin foals were sold for top record setting prices. Just to mention a few there are: Phin Phin, Cholula, Chapala, Querly Chin, Tolano van het Riethof, Triomphe de Muze, Ta Belle van Sombeke and of course Riot Gun van de Paddenborre, who was winner of the Grand Prix of Lisbon. Tedechine Sept who was placed several times in the GP of Indio, USA.
Mareline:
One of the top marelines in Holland, show jumping qualities and beauty are deeply anchored in this pedigree.
Echinidee’s much sought after mareline has produced many approved stallions and International sport horses.
This mareline produced the 2015 Dutch Champion at the KWPN foal selection Korinchidee DN [Etoulon x Chinchidee DN Elite, D-OC (Chin Chin x Contender x Landgraf I)]. The full blood sibling to our Echinidee and dam to the 2015 Dutch Champion Foal Chinchidee DN Elite, D-OC, bred by Derk Noordhuis, was twice Champion of Holland as a foal winning the National Foal Championship then three years later at the 2010 KWPN Horse Days she was crowned National Champion 3-year old Jumper Mare. The KWPN jury remarked that Chinchidee is a complete mare with presence, size and nobility! Chinchidee passed the mare testing with an excellent top mark of 81.5.
Echinidee’s dam the famous mare in Holland, Orchidee Ster, PROK, Preferent (Contender) already produced two licensed stallions, of which Original VDL (Oberon du Moulon) is jumping at 1.30m level in the USA and Quite Magic (Quidam de Revel) at 1.50/1.55m level under Cesar Almeida (BRA). Orchidee is also dam of the KWPN referred stallion Hudson DN (Arezzo VDL) and a 1.35m level jumper Twister (Emilion). Orchidee’s daughter Klarenchide DN (Zapatero) was the 6th place foal at the Dutch Championships in 2015. At the 2016 KWPN stallion show, Incognito DN PROK [Dakar x Upchidee (Emilion x Contender x Landgraf I)] was referred to the stallion testing, he is owned by VDL Stud.
Orchidee is sired by the legendary Contender who is without doubt, one of the most influential jumper sires today. Contender won his 100 day Stallion Performance test at Adelheidsdorf, Germany with the impressive jumping score of 146.62. He was later named Reserve Champion Main Premium Stallion of Oldenburg based on the extremely high quality of his first crop of foals. Contender stood at stud in Oldenburg for 3 years, and thereafter stood in Holstein.
From Contender’s first crop of foals alone came the international jumping horses Maria Callas (Ben Schreder), Niko (Geoff Billington), and Copa D’oro (Yves Houtackers), as well as the eventer Chicoletto (Herbert Blecker). Marco Kutscher is currently riding no less than three licensed Contender sons in international showjumping, these being Contreo, Conterno Grande and Montender, who was a Bronze Medalist at the Athens Olympic Games, German Champion in 2003, and European Champion in 2005. Checkmate competed at the European Championships under Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, and the pair also won on the Rider’s Tour. Collin L, won the German Showjumping Derby ridden by Toni Hassmann. Controe [Contender x Aloube Z] has on two occasions taken 2nd place in Major classes at CSI’s at Amsterdam and Stockholm.
The 2004 World Champion Sire, Con Spirito R [Contender x Caletto I] has competed successfully under Theo Muff, and is now standing at the Ruetimann Stud in Switzerland. Other successful Contender sons include, as well as Contendro I, Camiros (1994 Licensing Champion), Contango (Performance Test Champion at Oldenburg, later exported to the US), Cantos [Contender x Goodtimes], Chellano Z [Contender x Cor De La Bryere], Koriander [Contender x Moltke I], Canabis Z [Contender x Silvester], Clinton [Contender x Maikoenig], Continue, Concetto, Caius, Coleo, Calvador, Concerto I and II, and CORDOBES I and II, who were purchased by Warendorf, the State Stud of Westphalia. Interestingly, Cordobes I was winner of the 1998 Stallion Performance Test with an overall score of 146.29, a mere 0.33 different from that of his sire!
The life-time earnings of Contender`s offspring such as the double European Champion, Montender, the two-time Riders Tour winner, Checkmate, and the three-time Derby winner, Collin have run over 3.9 million by 2006. In 2004, Contender was ranked 3rd in the World Showjumping Sire Ratings and 1st on the list of the World’s Best Showjumping Sires in 2005.
Contender is one of the many graded sons of Calypso ll whose progeny include the International showjumping stallions Montemorelos La Silla and Canas J. Calypso II is by the great sire of champions Cor de la Bryere who is a proven sire of sires through his son Cavalier Royal, the top producer of sport horses in Ireland. Cor de la Bryere’s progeny have won over Euro 1.5 million in prize money in Germany alone. His International showjumping progeny include San Patrigiano Corrode, Cordalme Z, VDL Corland, Cera 001, Bollvorm’s Chablis and Global Concorde. He is also the sire of the international dressage horses Cabaret, Caprice, Castello and the world famous Corlandus.
Echinidee’s grand-dam, Jasmina Keur, Preferent, Prestatie received 8.5 for jumping in her mare test. Jasmina produced four showjumping horses at 1.30-1.50m level including the Zangersheide licensed stallion and Dutch Champion Ultimate VDL (Indoctro).
Jasmina’s sire the legendary Landgraf I by Ladykiller xx is a top source of all-round competition talent in the Holstein breed and one of the worlds leading sires of all time. He has over 30 offspring currently jumping at top International level including: Libero H (1994 World Cup Champion with Jos Lansink), Leandra and Lucky Luke ridden by Otto Becker, Landadel, Landlord, Taggi, Major Wager and is the sire of the international dressage horse Lugano 140. His total progeny winnings to date are well over EURO 2.5 million.
Landgraf I, has been labelled by many as “the” Stallion of the Century. His genes are securely anchored in the breed of the modern sporthorse.
Nearly 60 colts by Landgraf I have been licenced for the Holsteiner stud book, like the champion of 1991, Linaro, and the dressage talent, Loutano. Some of his sons have already achieved top positions as performance sires, for example, Letus II, a jumping sire, and the versatile Landadel, who produced three champion stallions for the Oldenburger breed alone, and also the outstanding international showjumper, Le Cou Cou, a licenced stallion.
So far, 340 broodmares by Landgraf I are registered in the Holsteiner stud book, 260 of these are in the Head Stud Book, 70 have been awarded the State Premium, and a considerable number have been champion mares at shows.
Landgraf I was born in1966 and past away in 1996. He had a very good temperament which he passed on dominantly, together with excellent movement.
In his Stallion Book of the Holsteiner Warmblood Breed, Dr Dietrich Rossow comments: “Imposing appearance with enormous crest and neck carriage. Smooth total topline and much presence. Beautiful face with marvellous eye. Long, rather broad neck, long sloping shoulder. Well shaped, muscular croup, strong bone and good in front. Good mover. Marvellous temperament. Phenomenal jumper; tight in front, lots of bascule, careful and talented. Great performance capabilities.”
Landgraf I is far and away the most important jumper sire in the world!
