Lineage Sire:

Rolanda’s sire is the prolific Preferent KWPN stallion Olympic Ahorn. Ahorn is descended from the famous Holstein family 242, and is related to Joost, Alcatraz and Locarno.

His dam M. Hyazinthe Prestatie, a German State premium mare, produced four approved stallions and three International show jumpers.

Olympic Ahorn’s sire, Nimmerdor also competed successfully in World Cups, Grand Prix and forfeited his place at the Olympics in order to fulfill his stud requirements.

Nimmerdor produced over 50 approved stallions and over 60 progeny who have competed at International level in sport. He is approved by almost every sport horse and warmblood breed society and has been awarded Preferant status by the KWPN which is the highest possible award for stallion recognition. Farn has also produced many top horses and is the damsire of Geoff Billington’s famous gelding Virtual Village It’s Otto.

Ahorn competed at the top international level, consistently placing in World Cups and Grand Prix competitions.
His results are extensive and include: 9th Amsterdam, 7th Geneva, 6th Mechlin, 2nd The Hague, 4th s’Hertogenbosch, 4th Zuric, 5th Hickstead and in 1993 he was the international 1.40m stallion champion.
He represented the Netherlands in Nation’s Cup competitions and was short-listed for the Barcelona Olympics, which earned him the prefix ¨Olympic¨.

Ahorn’s offspring continue the success with a number of progeny competing at International level. These include: Tinto, Feisal, Eleva, Anadolu Foxfire, Nissan High Valley Z who was Dutch Champion and placed at Grand Prix, Gerwin, Smiley, Australie 2000 winning at Grand Prix level and top seven year old in Austria, VDL Miss Ahorn, Dublin 3, Stella, Grandriver, Jerremy, V&L Chanel who has won and placed numerous times at Grand Prix competitions, Greco, Hendo, Furore, Giny, Hattrick, Ivor, Iron and Ursula XII to name a few.

Ian Millar’s 2004 Athens Olympic mount Promise Me’s damsire is by Olympic Ahorn . Olympic Ahorn is also the sire of Feizal with Mario Deslauriers , Eurocommerce Geneve who placed 10th at the 2003 World Cup Finals and Iron who represented Italy in the 2000 Olympics.

A fantastic producer of broodmares Ahorn is the sire of European Champion mare Helena, reserve European Champion Korenbloem, Dutch Champion mare Haciende who was also Champion at the 1997 stallion show in Den Bosch, Firette who was a five times UTV qualifier and Geminka Keur who is the dam of Dutch dressage star Kelvin. At the 1996 World Championships for young horses in Lanaken, Ahorn was the only KWPN stallion to have two progeny placed, Icamorka and Iron. He is also the sire of Neckar, the top priced horse at the 1998 Equilibra Challenge auction who sold for high price as a three year old.

Ahorn was granted Preferent status from the KWPN in 2001 and is the sire of ten approved stallion sons including: AK High Valley Z, High Valley’s full-brother, Noble Boy, Furore, Ohorn and Hattrick. Ahorn had four approved grandsons, including Kelvin (by Flemmingh).

The famous daughter of Ahorn, Ursula XII (Papageno) carried Scott Brash to 3rd place in the 2014 World Cup final in Lyon and in 2016, the pair won the Rolex Grand Prix of Calgary. In 2017, Ursula returned to competition, with a Grand Prix win in Doha.

Mareline:

Rolanda stems from a highly regarded performance dam line. Her dam, Kalanda, is an Elite, Preferent KWPN mare, she competed in sport with good results. A top progenitor her offspring have excelled in sport: Olympus (Voltaire), Papillon (Calido), Rolanda Elite, EPTM, PROK, D-OC (Ahorn), Selando ( Ahorn), Talanda Elite (Voltaire), Ulanda Ster, PROK (Heartbreaker), Wilanda Ster (Emilion), Zilwaukee (Berlin), Balando (Vancouver), Calando (Triomphe De Muze) and Elando (Diarado). International show jumpers Calavria (Ukato), Dirty Harry (Lord Z) and Intermezzo (Comme IL Faut) are from this mareline.

Kalanda’s sire Lord Calando is a superb example of the Lord and Calando I combination, two of Schleswig-Holstein’s top jumping lines. The career of Lord Calando is truly one of the signs of the times. Born and raised in Holstein, Germany, he finished his stud career in France.

Lord Calando’s sire needs little introduction, a son of the great Holsteiner sire Lord by Ladykiller xx. Lord is considered to be a pillar of Holsteiner breeding. His lifetime progeny earnings exceed 3 million DM and include some of the world’s top show jumpers, such as the famous Livius, winner of the Hamburg Derby and in the Olympic Games in 1984, Lord Z, Lord Caletto, Top Speed, Indeed, Aegon’s Lordon and many others.
His dam Perra (Calando I), is also the dam of the highly ranked Zangersheide stallion Carthago Z (Capitol I) another of the great jumping competitors and sires who competed at the Sydney Olympics with Jos Lansink. Her sire, Calando was himself an international show jumper with Karsten Huck and then with the Belgian (later to represent Luxemburg) Edgar-Henri Cuepper. He was also a good sire of jumpers with progeny with earnings of DM500,000 by 1994, and 180 state premium mares. Canada’s top-ranked show jumper Conejo (Karen Cudmore) was a son of Calando I.

Lord Calando’s grand-dam, Kerrin was a successful show jumper in her own right. She was the only registered daughter of Mambo (by the Thoroughbred Marlon) of the famous mare line 730B, which also produced the Caletto brothers. Kerrin shares a dam sire with them Consul, the sire of the great dressage horse, Granat.

After standing at the famous private stud farm of Maas J. Hell, Lord Calando made his move to France, to the French National Stud. In 2006, he was 47th on the list of the top 100 French stallions with 73 mares. In 2007, he was 55th with 69 mares. His move to France marks also the return to that country of the blood of one of its most famous exports, Cor de la Bryère, Calando’s sire.

Lord Calando is described on the Stud website as: “a handsome and athletic horse, with very good shoulders and haunches.” They consider his strong points to be: “Looks, movement, genetics… His offspring are good looking with great movement. He should be crossed with mares who lack strength, movement, but have balanced temperaments. Because of the amount of blood on his father’s side, he will have a more refining effect.”

Indeed Lord Calando is rich in Thoroughbred blood. Aside from his paternal grand-sire, Ladykiller, there are three crosses of Cottage Son, one of Rantzau, one of Furioso and one of Marlon.

Lord Calando hit the jackpot when he was ‘trial’ bred while awaiting his performance test, and produced his most famous son, Lux Z one of the most successful stallions in International show jumping. With Jerry Smit, Lux Z participated in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the World Games in Jerez in 2002. He also won the Pulsar Crown competitions in Valkenswaard and Cannes to bring Lux Z’s total winnings to more than a million euro. In blood Rolanda is very closely related to Lux Z through her mareline.

Lord Calando’s approved sons include: Lacantus, FEI-Level Dressage horse, Lordship, Bavaria Luchs and Lux Z. Hilltop Farm’s stallion Royal Appearance, Ludo Philippaerts’ Chatman and Numero Uno’s dam Jolanda boast Lord Calando as their damsire, as do many other successful sport horses around the world.

Lord Calando is the sire of many international show jumping and dressage horses such as: Locando (Marcus Ehning), Fabienne (Piet Raymakers), Lorafus (Jerry Smits), Nabob (Eduard Couperie) and Lukas (Emma Wester). The Hanoverian stallion Lux Z was bred at Zangersheide Stud Farm out of the Holstein mare Apocalypte Z (Ahorn Z), a product of lineage 2543. This famous Holstein family was also responsible for the licensed stallions: Lavallo, Lasino and Lone Star.

Rolanda’s grand-dam, Barke I, is a holsteiner mare by Ahorn Z who competed internationally as did his graded sons Acord I, Amaro, Antares and Aar. Ahorn Z also has a number of other progeny which have jumped with success such as Lord Arico, Acapulco and Dobel’s Gettina. Heureka H was a Grand Prix winner in Aquisgrana and has been the founder of the family of the Breeding Zangersheide. She is also the grand-dam of the famous Ratina Z, winner of the team Gold and individual Silver at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, winner of the World Cup in 1993, the team Gold at the World Championships in 1994 and the team Gold at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
